History

Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), was established in 1946, as the Isfahan Higher School of Health Education. In 1950, the Isfahan Faculty of Medicine was inaugurated and students were admitted for the M.D. degrees after a 6-year medical training course.

In 1955, the faculty of medicine was permitted to establish the school of pharmacy, which offered bachelor programs. In 1958 the school of pharmacy became independent and the faculty of literature was also established. The University of Isfahan was established with three schools and the first university chancellor was appointed.

In 1967, the university began a new era in its history as a modern university and moved to the current Hezar Jerib Campus. Residency programs were first introduced in 1967. In the academic year of 1968-1969, two higher education units, the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and school of nursing, were established and a bachelor degree for laboratory sciences was offered for the first time in the University of Isfahan. Residency programs were first introduced in 1967. In the academic year of 1968-1969, private university clinics were established in Amin, Khorshid, and Kashani hospitals. In 1972, the 4-year bachelor program of pharmacy was changed to a 6-year doctorate program in pharmacy and the faculty was renamed as the faculty of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Five years later, a master’s degree in physiology was introduced for the first time.

The Center for Research on Infectious and Tropical Diseases was established in 1994 and was approved in the 118th meeting of the Council for the Development of Medical Sciences in the country on 1998. This center is ready to cooperate in all research activities in the field of infectious and tropical diseases with all individuals and scientific centers.
